Overview
Splitt is a mobile app simply built and designed to be a simple bill splitter with an elevated interface and experience for a 24-Hour Hackathon. Analyzing competing apps on the market, noting the weaknesses, the strengths, and creating an app to solve a problem my friends' and I run into.
Process of creation
We developed this application as a solution to a personal issue we experience often, ensuring that it was not only meaningful to us but to others as well. Before beginning, we undertook extensive research on other bill splitting apps available on the market. To our dismay, we weren't satisfied with many of them; there was always something glaring at us. We made a record of these features and proceeded to create a user flow diagram. Our primary objective with Splitt is to present an aesthetic interface while simultaneously offering a seamless user experience on navigating through the app. We aimed to design it in a way that is vibrant, user-friendly, and realistic to use.
Challenges we ran into
Given the compressed time frame of 24 hours to develop a product, the early stages of the project heavily centered on validating a logical user journey. I diagrammed potential user choices, continually seeking input from my engineering team prior to initiating development. The app didn't require a complex interface with custom graphics, or any brand mascots, hence, a minimalist design was our only viable option given the time constraints we were operating under.
Final results
We're proud that for this hackathon, we took an actual issue our friend group runs into, and built an application that we're going to use from now on, and we hope that others can see the value in it as well! Mobile development and design is also fresh to us, so there were many areas that we slowly navigated, in the end, we got a solid grasp on how to develop applications from the ground up.
